Terms of Use — Math Paper
Last Updated: March 23, 2026
Effective Date: March 23, 2026
Welcome to Math Paper. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Math Paper iOS application and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Math Paper ("we", "us", or "our").
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By using the Service you confirm you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms and that you are at least the minimum age required in your jurisdiction to use the Service (the Service is not intended for children under 13).
These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Math Paper. Your continued use of the Service after updates to the Terms constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms (see "Changes to Terms" below).
Certain features may be subject to additional terms or guidelines which will be presented to you when applicable; those additional terms are part of these Terms.
2. Description of Service
Math Paper is an iOS education app that helps users solve mathematical problems using artificial intelligence. Users can capture or select an image of a math question; the Service processes the image and generates a handwritten-style solution.
Key features:
Image capture and selection of math problems
AI-generated, handwritten-style solutions
Local history system to store past questions and solutions
Pay-as-you-go, token-based model for AI requests
Multi-language support
The Service operates on a token system. Generating solutions requires the consumption of tokens, which can be acquired via in-app purchases.
3. Anonymous Usage & Device Binding
No Account Creation: The Service uses anonymous authentication. You are not required to provide an email address, name, or create a password to use the core features of the App.
Device-Based Tracking: Your token balances and usage history are securely tied to a randomly generated, anonymous device identifier.
Data Deletion: You may clear your local history or delete the App from your device at any time. Because usage is strictly anonymous, we do not maintain traditional "accounts" that require manual deletion on our backend.
4. User Obligations & Acceptable Use
Acceptable use:
You will use the Service only for lawful educational purposes.
You will not use the Service to solicit or facilitate academic dishonesty (e.g., submitting AI-generated solutions as your own work where doing so violates school or institutional rules).
You will not upload content that violates privacy, intellectual property, or other legal rights of others.
Do not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the Service or any underlying systems.
Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:
Uploading images containing personally identifiable information of others without consent.
Using the Service to create content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or obscene.
Circumventing token controls or using automated means to access the Service.
Indemnity: You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold Math Paper and its officers, employees, agents, and affiliates harmless from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.
5. Intellectual Property Rights
Our ownership: Math Paper and its licensors retain all right, title, and interest in and to the Service and all related software, technology, trademarks, trade names, logos, and content provided by Math Paper.
User content and inputs:
You retain ownership of the images and other content you upload to the Service.
By uploading content and using the Service, you grant Math Paper a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to transmit and process your content as necessary to provide the Service.
AI-generated solutions delivered to you are provided for your personal, non-commercial educational use subject to these Terms.
Third-party materials: The Service relies on third-party AI providers to generate solutions and iOS frameworks (such as AVFoundation and PhotosUI). Your use of the Service is subject to the terms and data processing practices of these third-party providers.
6. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
No warranty: The Service, including all content and AI-generated outputs, is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Educational use only: AI-generated solutions are intended to assist learning and understanding. They may be incomplete, inaccurate, or unsuitable for use in high-stakes or professional contexts. You should verify results independently.
Limitation of liability: To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
Math Paper, its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, and licensors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
Our aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you actually paid to Math Paper for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim. If you have not paid us in that period, our aggregate liability will not exceed $50.
7. In-App Purchases (Tokens)
No Subscriptions: Math Paper does not offer auto-renewable subscriptions. The Service operates strictly on a single-use, pay-as-you-go token model.
Tokens and consumables:
Generating solutions consumes a specific amount of tokens. You can top up your balance by purchasing consumable token packages through the App.
All purchases are processed securely by Apple via your App Store account.
Tokens are non-transferable between different devices or operating systems unless supported by Apple's restore mechanisms for the same anonymous Apple ID environment.
Refunds: Because all transactions are processed by Apple, refunds are handled exclusively according to Apple’s refund policies. Please contact Apple Support or use the report-a-problem portal for any refund requests.
Taxes: You are responsible for all taxes associated with purchases, except for taxes based on Math Paper’s net income.
8. Termination
Termination by you: You may stop using the Service at any time by simply deleting the App from your device.
Termination by Math Paper: We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms, misuse the Service, or for operational or legal reasons, with or without notice.
Effect of termination: On termination, your right to use the Service will end. Any provisions that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., intellectual property, indemnity, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) will survive.
9. Governing Law
These Terms and any disputes arising out of or related to them will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
You and Math Paper agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California for any legal action arising from these Terms, except where prohibited by applicable law.
10. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. When changes are material, we will provide notice through the App or by posting a conspicuous notice on our website.
Continued use of the Service after the Effective Date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Service and delete the App.
